Study Topics for Fridays Linear Functions Unit Test.

Posted on November 1, 2009. Filed under: Math 8 Advanced, Math 8 On-level |

Every student has been given a study guide Linear Functions Study Guide   and now the solutions Solutions to Linear Functions Study Guide with problems they should work for understanding. We will post the answers to the study guide later in the week. The study guide is due completed showing all work in class on Thursday 11/5. The following topics give a description of the skills required for success on the unit test. The study guide gives you  practice in these areas:

  • Calculate the slope of a line and interpret what the slope means in the context of a scenario
  • Determine if a function is linear and graph it if it is linear.
  • Find the x & y-intercepts from a linear equation in standard form
  • Use x & y intercepts to graph a linear function
  • Find the slope of a line given 2 points
  • Find the slope of a line written in standard form
  • Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form given the slope and y-intercept
  • Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form given the slope and a point.
  • Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form given the equation in standard form
  • Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form given two points
  • Graph a linear relationship that represents a vertical, horizontal or other kind of data.
  • Graph a line given standard form.
  • Write an equation in standard form given the equation in slope-intercept form
  • Understand how slope relates to rate of change from a table and be able to compute the slope
  • Find the slope and y-intercept of a line written in slope-intercept form
  • Write an equation in slope-intercept form given a graph of a line.
  • Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form given a table. If it is linear !!
  • Take an equation and complete a table of linear pairs that represents the equation.
  • Given an arithmetic sequence right a rule (equation) and find specified term in the sequence.

In addition there will be 5 questions which make up 10% of the test from units 1 & 2, so review the topics from the previous units.
